Your team

Within the The Aviation Transformation Directorate, the EUROCONTROL Innovation Hub (EIH) carries out research, innovation and simulation activities to help improve European aviation performance, safety and sustainability, bridging the gap between R&D and operations. The EIH also addresses emerging new technologies as well as deployment of drones and urban air mobility systems.

As Product Management Assistant, you will contribute to the development and evolution of products, models, or platforms (e.g. BADA - Base of Aircraft Data, Cockpit simulator, etc.) by aligning user needs, stakeholder priorities, and technical delivery to maximise value for ATM innovation.

Your role

Your role will be to:

  • Provide specialised technical support in the development and maintenance of product strategies and roadmaps, contributing as a technical assistant.
  • Provide support to identify, collect and document business and user needs, and assist in translating them into technical or functional requirements and change requests.
  • Contribute to product delivery and implementation and in the deployment, use and support of products to internal and external users.
  • Support continuous improvement and the resolution of operational challenges by identifying recurring issues, suggesting improvements, participating in research activities, and assisting with the implementation and follow-up of technical or procedural solutions.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders and partners to follow up on progress in line with the product delivery plan.
  • Provide support to outsourcing and supplier-related activities, including participation in contract management processes, ensuring alignment with project and product needs.
  • Develop knowledge and skills under the guidance of more senior staff and assist / support staff with less experience in the domain of expertise and knowledge.
  • Carry out any other task in line with the main purpose of the job.

Required qualifications, experience & competencies

  • Candidates must fulfil the following educational and professional experience requirements:
    • Completion of post-secondary education in a relevant domain (e.g. Engineering, Mathematics, Physics etc.) meeting European Qualifications Framework (EQF) Level 5 followed by a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience.

  • Internal candidates can check on the intranet to see what level of in-house experience is considered equivalent to educational qualifications where appropriate.
  • Experience with the application of iterative (Agile) development methodologies and tools.
  • Experience in coordinating and managing the development and evolution of products, including prioritisation of enhancements, managing product backlog, version and release management.
  • Experience in Excel and in at least one programming environment (e.g. MATLAB, Python or equivalent).
  • Experience or knowledge in supplier and contract management for externally provided product development, maintenance, or support activities.
  • Technical drafting skills (English).
  • Knowledge or experience in one or several of the following area(s) would be an asset:
    • Mission critical systems, in particular Air Traffic Management (ATM) systems, simulators, training systems;
    • Understanding of aircraft performance and flight mechanics;
    • Mathematical modelling skills;
    • Basic understanding of avionics systems (e.g., Flight Management System, Flight Control System)
    • Software development and/or software architecture in cloud applications.

  • The working languages of the Agency are English and French. For this particular job, candidates must be proficient users of English at level C1. The selected candidate will be required to become at least a basic user of French at level A1 before the end of the probation period. 
    The levels relate to the European-framework-reference Common European Framework of References for languages (CEFR).

    Internal staff appointed for a determined period
    • Retain their current type of appointment duration.
    • Continue under their existing appointment duration, as appointment durations are not cumulative.
    • The duration of their appointment will therefore not restart upon selection to the new post, i.e. the remaining duration of their current determined appointment continues to apply.
    • Renewal(s): This appointment may be renewed several times, but its total duration, including all renewal periods, may not exceed nine (9) years.
    • Conversion: Conversion to an undetermined duration appointment is possible where all of the following cumulative conditions are met: the post is confirmed as being of a lasting nature; the staff member has completed at least five years of service; the staff member’s performance has been satisfactory; and the conversion is in the interests of the service. Conversion is therefore not automatic.

    • Retain their current type of appointment duration.
    At the end of the 5 Year period of the post for which they were selected:
    • If the assignment is extended, they will continue in the post in accordance with the applicable rules.
    • If the assignment is not extended and/or the duties are not confirmed as being of a lasting nature, they will be transferred to another post corresponding to their “previous” type of post, job level, and function group.
  • The selected candidate must successfully complete a probationary period of nine (9) months before being established in the post.
  • The selected candidate shall be appointed at the grade set out in this vacancy notice, or if a group of grades has been published for a job level, in principle at the basic grade of the published job level.
  • Candidates declared suitable who are not selected for the post will be placed on a reserve list for similar roles. The reserve list will be valid for one year from the closing date of applications.
