Your team

Within the Directorate European Civil-Military Aviation, the EUROCONTROL Innovation Hub (EIH) carries out research, innovation and simulation activities to help improve European aviation performance, safety and sustainability, bridging the gap between R&D and operations. The EIH also addresses emerging new technologies as well as deployment of drones and urban air mobility systems.         

Your role

Your role will be to:

  • Contribute to the development of UAS traffic management activities and support EUROCONTROL’s Member States with the integration of UAS operations in their national airspaces (U-space).
  • Conduct air space assessments and produce recommendations to Member States as part of their U-Space deployment addressing safety requirements and additional constraints (Security, privacy, environment, etc.).
  • Support EUROCONTROL’s contribution to research, innovation and deployment projects (e.g. SESAR) and work in partnership with external stakeholders.
  • Support the evolution of the UAS Safety Management System addressing emerging risks and contribute to the evolution of safety assessment methods in line with the UAS regulatory framework.
  • Support EUROCONTROL’s contributions to standardisation and regulatory bodies in areas related to UAS traffic management.
  • Support and/or contribute to meetings and working groups as required, and produce reports, presentations, etc.
  • Carry out any other task in line with the main purpose of the job.

Required qualifications, experience & competencies

  • Completed university studies of 4 years in a relevant area.
  • A minimum of 1-year relevant working experience.
  • Experience in at least two of the following areas:
    • UAS traffic management / U-space
    • U-space R&D
    • U-space deployment
    • UAS ATM integration challenges
  • Knowledge of UAS / U-space European regulatory framework (Implementing Regulation 2019/947 & 2021/664).
  • Understanding of Air Traffic Management and Air Navigation Services.
  • Experience or knowledge in UAS safety, risk assessment and methods (e.g. SORA, SRM, MEDUSA) would be an asset.
  • Understanding in the domain of ATM, CNS or UAS at European level would be an asset.
  • Technical drafting skills in English.

  • The working languages of the Agency are English and French. For this particular job, candidates must be proficient users of English at level C1. The selected candidate will have to acquire at least a basic knowledge of French at level A1 before the end of the probation period.
    The levels relate to the Common European Framework of References for languages (CEFR).

  • The selected candidate will be offered a contract of 3 Year (s) pursuant to the provisions of the Conditions of Employment of Contract Staff at EUROCONTROL. The contract may be renewed. Before being established in the post, he/she will be requested to provide certified copies of his/her degrees and successfully serve a probationary period of 9 months.
  • The successful candidate shall be engaged in principle at the basic grade of the advertised grades.
  • In case of reserve list: Suitable candidates, however not selected to fill the post, will be placed on a reserve list for similar functions. The period of validity of reserve list is 1 year from the closing date of applications.
